Out & About: Black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm

Tour of the black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm with the architects and the farm manager. This visit will be preceded by a lecture of the architects in the Croatian Architects’ Association, in Zagreb, on the 7th of June at 6 p.m. Both events are jointly organized by OUT&ABOUT 2024 and Croatian Architects’ Association.

Black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm by SKROZ d.o.o.

Black Slavonian pig is an autochthonous Croatian breed. During the 20th century, the number of individuals declined and it was declared endangered. Fortunately, interest in this breed has returned. This farm was designed to accommodate the needs of traditional farming thus aiming to achieve innovative solutions using traditional, local materials.
The architectural project required a farm design according to the highest standards of organic farming. Urban design concept proposes two identical complexes positioned at a right angle in a rotated coordinate system forming farmyards.
Apart from the bare function, the appearance of buildings is conditioned by the context of the rural Slavonian region, which is visible in the geometry of the roof, the cover of the panes and in the material and method of treating the facade.

“Out & About. Discovering Architecture. EUmies Awards 2024” will take place from April onwards in over 30 European places in which shortlisted works of the prize are located. Organised by Creative Europe, Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the indisputable expertise of Guiding Architects, everybody has the opportunity to know much more about buildings and public spaces in their cities or in places that they are visiting with the authors, clients and people who know them well.
