SoHo, NoHo, the Villages and the Lower East Side: Academia, Culture & Commerce

Tour of the university area with Cooper Union’s New Academic Building (Thom Mayne / Morphosis) and Steven Holl’s renovation of the NYU Department of Philosophy. Walk through SoHo, NoHo and the Lower East Side past examples of New York’s cast iron architecture to new residential projects by Jean Nouvel and Herzog & de Meuron and shops designed by Rem Koolhaas, Thomas Heatherwick, Raw Edges Design, Philippe Starck, and Shigeru Ban. Visit two art installations by Walter De Maria and the Storefront for Art and Architecture by Steven Holl and Vito Acconci. The walking tour ends on the Bowery with visits to a new gallery designed by Norman Foster and the New Museum by SANAA.

Start of the tour on weekdays in front of the NYU Department of Philosophy (5 Washington Pl @ Mercer Street), start on weekends at Cooper Square (3^rd Ave & E. 6^th Street)

Coffee break in the Cast Iron District or at the New Museum

The tour ends at the New Museum with the option to individually visit the museum exhibitions.
