Wine and Architecture in Pannonhalma

On Martin Hill in Pannonhalma, halfway between Budapest and Vienna, the Benedictine monastery has stood for more than 1,000 years with its Gothic basilica, impressive Baroque library and grammar school, Hungary's oldest one. In the immediate vicinity of these historic buildings, we encounter outstanding examples of contemporary architecture: the sports hall and concert hall of the grammar school by Robert Gutowski, the new visitor entrance and wine cellar by the Czita architectural studio, and the sensitive renovation of the basilica itself, designed by John Pawson and 3h architects. During the tour of the wine cellar, a wine tasting is of course a must.
